"Analytics" by jenerator on July 23, 2007, 7:54 am, in category misc
How many of you small Biz SEO people have incorporated Analytics into your service offering? How many hours a week do you spend learning about various stats tracking applications? I spend approx. 7 hrs a week reviewning and compiling information on my websites and clients sites. What it has brought to our business? Sophisticated intel and security. With a good understanding of Web Trends and Urchin--(among others)--a small business can secure the future business of existing clients and can easil.....

"shortbread cookies" by sarah on July 18, 2007, 9:02 am, in category google
The recent news that Google will reduce the length of time that their cookie gathers behavioural data on Google users is unfortunate. I know privacy is an issue but they are not identifying individuals. For the internet experience to become more relevant and personalised - big portals NEED this kind of data. It works both ways. Overall, the more data we have to study on all the demographics of people online, the better the internet experience becomes - for everyone (advertisers, surfers, shopper.....

I am often asked how our article pages achieve the search result placements they do.
What's our secret? Most don't believe me when I say understanding google's algorithm is not that difficult. Fundamentally you need to take seriously what google tells the world on its website about best practices for web developers....and then use common sense.

If you want to win in the world of organic search don't be tempted by short cuts. This free cheese is defintely in the mouse tra.....

"How real is the need for small business to be found in local search?" by sarah on June 26, 2007, 1:01 pm, in category local search
In June 2007 I attended the Search Engine Strategies Conference in Toronto. I stayed at my uncle's place. This photo of a stack of lonely Yellow Pages always struck me as I passed them in the lobby of his large apartment complex. Being a marketer I teem with questions... What about the advertisers who payed good money to be featured in the printed version of Yellow Pages? Are local businesses aware that their customers are Googling for local plumbers, pizza places, auto repairs and everything el.....
